Counselling or Hypnotherapy

Person Centred Therapy (PCT)
Carl Roger's PCT is one of the best known therapy models in the UK and around the world. The main goal of PCT is to develop self-acceptance. PCT has been used to great effect in the treatment of most psycho-emotional disorders, from chronic depression to substance misuse. In PCT, clients are free to express their emotions and change at their own pace. This form of therapy allows the individual to explore past events in detail and establish connections with present issues.
I also incorporate aspects of Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) when appropriate. For example, suggesting homework such as a mindfulness practice, or a drink or mood diary.

Solution Focused Hypnotherapy (SFH)

SFH is a contemporary therapy model, strongly influenced by the most recent developments in neuroscience research. SFH recognises the importance in understanding how the brain works and how cognitive processes and behaviour influence the different aspects of brain chemistry.  Most importantly it uses this knowledge to drive improvement in a person's wellbeing, by tapping into the brain's amazing plasticity, or the ability to change its neuronal pathways, according to the way we think and feel.

SFH is a goal-oriented, non-judgmental, collaborative interaction between therapist and client, that focuses on present and future achievements, recognising that although the causes of problems may be complex and varied, their solutions can be quite straight forward. The problem-free talk practiced in SFH, leads individuals to discover their hidden resources and become more pro-active in their own lives.

A SFH practitioner’s focus is to help clients identify hidden resources to build a better future for themselves.

How many sessions will I need?

Therapy is a very individual experience, so it is difficult to tell how many sessions each person may need, however, it is not uncommon for people to start noticing improvement from the first or second session. You will decide when you have achieved what you wanted from our interactions and to continue or cease therapy at a time of your choosing.

Certain conditions can be handled in a more structured, fixed manner. For example, smoking cessation can be completed in a one-off session of about two hours, and treatment of specific phobias (e.g. spiders, or flying), can be completed in three sessions.
